The 20 Best B-Movie Performances

March 16th, 2013 | 12:08 pm

In The Call, Halle Berry plays a 911 emergency operator who must help save Abigail Breslin from a murderer over the phone. In the film, Berry also makes a convincing argument for why she deserves to enter the pantheon of great actors who give great performances in classic B-movies.

So, what makes a classic B-movie? Well, either it was meant to be good, but fell magnificently and embarrassingly short, or it was meant to be a silly piece of fluff, but turned into an inadvertent masterpiece because of the love put into it. Basically, B-movies are films we love to watch over and over again, but would never admit to liking them in public. Liking a B-Movie may be controversial, but loving a famous actor’s performance is only natural.

Here’s our countdown of the 20 Best B-Movie Performances of all time:

While You Were Sleeping: Did Ryan Seacrest And Julianne Hough End Their Romance?

Topshop Topman LA Opening Party - Inside

How is Prince Harry spending his time (and whom is he still spending it with)? Is Selena Gomez now a good girl or a bad girl on Wizards of Waverly Place? Plus American Horror Story spoilers in today’s “While You Were Sleeping”.

  • Ryan Seacrest and Julianne Hough have parted ways. The couple were together for two years and rumors have it the split was caused by their equally insane schedules. Hough, of course, is an actress and dancer and Seacrest does everything. [People]
  • Will and Kate might be expecting a baby, but single Prince Harry has been spotted drinking and dancing in a London nightclub. His companion? Willowy new girlfriend, Cressida Bonas. [Daily Mail]
  • Selena Gomez hasn’t said good bye to the Wizards of Waverly Place quite yet.  The Spring Breakers star appeared in a special, “The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex”, last night where she played an evil version of her good girl character, Alex Russo. Sounds as meta as it is magical. [MTV News]
  •  Spoilers for the next season of American Horror Story have emerged, so read on at your own peril! The next season will be entitled “Coven” and will focus on witches in New Orleans. Sounds too spooky for me to bring myself to watch. [TV Line]

What hot Hollywood role did Downton Abbey‘s Mr. Pamuk, aka Theo James, just land? And what’s the Crocodile Hunter‘s daughter doing now? All this, plus some good news for once for Danny Devito and Rhea Perlman fans, in today’s Last Lap.

  • Kate Middleton seems to be feeling much better since her hospitalization for acute morning sickness a few months ago. The future monarch has been seen out and about at the Cheltenham Races. [US Magazine]
  • Downton Abbey and Golden Boy star Theo James has been cast as Four in the upcoming adaptation of Divergent. The British hottie has nabbed a hotly contested role that the likes of Alex Pettyfer and every other young hot guy in Hollywood wanted. In the book, Four gets to teach Shailene Woodley‘s Tris about kicking ass (and kissing by waterfalls). [MTV News]
  • The Crocodile Hunter’s littler girl is all grown up! Bindi Irwin is now a beautiful fourteen year old girl and she is vowing to carry on her father’s legacy. Papa would be proud of his socially conscious girl. [RadarOnline]
  • Love is real again! Danny Devito and Rhea Perlman are calling off their divorce and getting back together. Our prayer circles worked! We did it, guys! [People]

Nic Cage Regrets Refusing The Role Of Shrek, Joins Our List Of 20 Stars Who Turned Down Iconic Roles

March 15th, 2013 | 2:21 pm

Nic Cage turned down the role of Shrek

Nicolas Cage has played some pretty insane characters in his day, which is why we guess it makes sense that Dreamworks honcho Jeffrey Katzenberg asked him to provide voice to Shrek, the lovable green ogre in the film of the same name. But amazingly for a guy who has made The Wicker Man, Con-Air, The Rock, and Bangkok Dangerous (we could go on), Nic turned him down!

The character is so heavily identified with Mike Myers, but Nic was actually the first choice for the role. Sadly seems like Nic has some self esteem issues, because the thought of playing an ugly monster proved a little too much for him. “We were talking about Shrek and I just didn’t want to look like an ogre,” he told the Daily Mail during the red carpet premiere of The Croods. “Maybe I should have done it looking back.” Errr, considering the multi-billion dollar franchise it turned into, it probably couldn’t have hurt! But don’t feel bad, Nic. Passing on life-changing roles happens to actors all the time. Just another hazard of the job, really. Check out the gallery above to see 20 other stars who turned down iconic parts of a lifetime.

Burt-Cover

“Oh, oh, oh…it’s [stage] magic…you know…” The Incredible Burt Wonderstone hits theaters today and we couldn’t be more excited to see Steve Carrell and Jim Carrey cast their spell over us. Sure, film and literature is filled with wizards like Harry Potter and Merlin and sorceresses like The Scarlet Witch and Melisandre, but it takes a specific breed of magical showman to do magic tricks (real or not) on a live stage.

So, pay no attention to the men and women behind the curtains, open your mind and prepare to be amazed by our Fifteen Favorite Fictional Illusionists and Stage Magicians.

10 Reasons Why Boston Is Wicked Awesome

March 15th, 2013 | 11:36 am

by Emily Exton (@emilyexton)

Boston has been the setting for award-winning films and beloved television shows, and will soon be on full display in our new series, Wicked Single, which aims to the best parts of the city–as seen through the experiences of a crazy group of 20 and 30somethings more concerned with RBV-induced dance parties than settling down and popping out kids. In honor of Sunday’s premiere, our friend Pete Lee at Best Week Ever took some time to explain just why this town is worthy of your attention, and perhaps, your tax dollars.

If reading’s more your style, check out our list of reasons why Boston is simply the best, below.

1. The city is well-caffeinated.

With Dunkin Donuts on nearly every corner, you never have to search too far for a cup (or box) of joe.

2. Patriots’ Day

In honor of Battles of Lexington and Concord–and in conjunction with the Boston Marathon–residents get a three-day weekend every spring. That’s reason enough for me to move.

3. Men can wear Uggs.

When he’s not leading the Patriots to the playoffs, Giselle’s husband is blazing a (comfy) trail for gender equality.

Celebrate Taylor Lautner’s 21st Birthday With 10 Shots Of His Bulging Biceps

February 11th, 2013 | 12:45 pm

10 Photos Of Taylor Lautner's Bulging Biceps

If you read this site enough, you’ll probably get the impression that we’re all a bunch of rabid raving Robert Pattinson super-fans.  And you would be correct. But considering that today is Taylor Lautner’s 21st birthday, we’ve decided to fly the Team Jacob Flag!

Yes, that world’s hottest werewolf is now officially old enough to drink in a bar, despite the fact that he’s had the body of a bouncer since he was like 15. Seriously, this dude could bench press a truck. On the other hand, we still have trouble lifting our grocery bags of Doritos and soda up three flights of stairs. What is his secret!? It probably involves bench pressing trucks and not consuming bags filled with Doritos and soda. Ahh, it sounds so simple now.

In honor of his big day, we’d like to round up a few of the most impressive pics of young T-Laut’s bulging biceps, perfect pecs, awesome abs and all-around flawless physique. It’s not like we’re jealous or anything, but…we are. Enjoy!

Rihanna Blows Grammy-Goers Out Of The Water With Three Dazzling Looks

February 11th, 2013 | 12:15 pm

Rihanna Grammys Red

Wardrobe changes are a crucial part of award shows, but unlike Rihanna, not many of last night’s Grammy stars had THREE separate outfits up their sleeves.  The frequent red carpet dweller dazzled on arrival, adhering to CBS and the Recording Academy’s newest wardrobe wishes, while still leaving the threat of a visible underboob alive and well via her two performance ensembles. But did the 2013 Grammy Awards feature her best award show looks yet?

RiRi opted for floor-length dresses and left her brown locks long, wild, and free, creating the illusion of a flawless mermaid walking on land as she floated from her seat to the stage with effortless grace. Her red carpet gown by Azzedine Alaïa–who’s like a really important designer–was sheer enough to create some buzz around her potential lack of undergarments, pushing the much-talked about stuffy boundaries yet keeping her free from Grammy Jail. These outfits may not have been as elaborate, over the top, or S&M-inspired as what we’ve seen her wear in the past, but it was the subtle hints–a plunging neckline here, a sheer bodice there–that left her looking her sexiest.

Take a look at Sunday night’s mini-fashion show–fresh off the RiRi runway–and let us know whether you think the glamorous star has truly outdone herself this time around.

Bling It On: 21 Stars Ready To Shine At The 2013 Grammy Awards

Carrie Underwood 2013 Grammys Bling

With new wardrobe restrictions put in place for the 2013 Grammys, music’s biggest stars had to find other ways to turn heads that didn’t include the words “see-through” or “fleshy under curves.” In addition to hot arm candy, the best accessory for the red carpet and beyond was all sparkly everything. Check out the the best in blinding Grammy Awards bling from last night’s show, below.

We hope Kelly Rowland and Miguel traded rings after the after parties, and that Katy Perry gave Taylor Swift tips for using double-stick tape. And 2 Chainz? We want your entire outfit for Halloween. We’re willing to barter.
